Stories Behind the Photographs
Places
I started taking travel photos as a way to connect to the places I was visiting, to remember them and to reflect on the life there. One of the first things to remember about being a photographer, whether for a hobby or for business is to love the adventure. You have to love the art of taking a photo. For me this happens when I see colors and patterns, beautiful nature scapes, interesting objects, animals, lights, city life, music, art, and the occasional humans.
Sometimes I would go out with my camera when I was having a rough time and sometimes I would be photographing while having the best time. I can remember the things I was going through when I look at some of the images. If it was a bad time, having that image, something beautiful that I captured, even though I was hurting, changes that memory, the pain of the time rolls away, replaced by the great image I got out of it.
Places can change you, they usually will, whether you want them to or not. When you view places through a creative lens you see between lines, behind curtens, and into the soul of what you are capturing. The great photographer Ansel Adams once said, “Photography, as a powerful medium of expression and communications, offers an infinite variety of perception, interpretation and execution.”
